Navigation in the Montreal Symphony orchestra

Metalab, SAT’s R&D laboratory, presents the progress of its latest research project on audio spatialization, which will enable the creation of immersive experiences of navigation in a symphony orchestra or any other sound space, real or virtual. The video contains a navigation demonstration in a virtual reproduction of the Montreal Symphony House.

The audio recording of Beethoven’s 6th Symphony, performed by the Montreal Symphony Orchestra conducted by Kent Nagano, was produced in February 2020.

The audio renderings were produced for research purposes, in order to demonstrate navigation in a sound space with 6 degrees of freedom, i.e. with total freedom of movement and orientation in space.
