Scenic’s Scènes Ouvertes network connects 23 venues across Quebec that can create, collaborate and broadcast their content to each other.
Never before have so many venues had the same equipment to create and broadcast telepresence projects. The Musée de la civilisation in Quebec City is equipped with a Scenic station in 2019.
The result of a decade of research, this program initiated by the Society for Arts and Technology [SAT], is part of the Quebec Digital Cultural Plan of the Ministry of Culture and Communications (MCC). It aims to create a space where broadcasters and producers can co-create, exchange and stage collaborative works.
Telepresence is made possible thanks to the Scenic software suite, developed by Metalab and embedded in a dedicated mobile station equipped for the stage.
This network of connected rooms, the first of its kind in the world, makes it possible to create a new scenic and scenographic language. New forms of telepresence, remote collaborative work and networked performances are emerging and will help artists and creative initiatives reach beyond the province.
New models of social economy and more organic partnerships with the business community in each region will also be facilitated. Each location equipped with SCENIC Station stands out as a hub in its region and an active partner in a national and international network of creation and exchange.
